Managing or cancelling your subscription

Everything happens in the billing portal. And why the button sometimes seems to do nothing.

Known gap

This article describes something in the app that is missing, partly built, or advertised elsewhere and not actually available. It says what happens today and how to get the outcome by hand. Everything of this kind is listed on known gaps.

Where it is

Account → Plan and billing → Manage plan. That opens the Stripe billing portal, where you can:

  • Cancel your subscription.
  • Switch between monthly and yearly.
  • Change plan.
  • Update your card.
  • Download invoices.

You are returned to your account page when you close it.

If "Manage plan" appears to do nothing

If clicking it drops you on the upgrade page instead of opening the portal, it means there is no billing account attached to your user yet.

That happens when your access came from somewhere other than a checkout — a gift code, or a manual grant. There is no Stripe customer record, so there is nothing for the portal to open, and the app sends you to the upgrade page instead.

It is a confusing behaviour, because "manage plan" bouncing you to a page that tries to sell you a plan reads as you are not subscribed to somebody who is. It is on our known gaps list.

What it means for you: if your access came from a code, there is nothing to cancel and no card to remove. Your access simply ends when the code's period ends — see trial and gift codes.

What cancelling does

You keep your plan until the end of the period you have already paid for. It does not cut off immediately and you are not refunded the remainder by default — see refunds if you want the balance back.

When the period ends, your account drops to Free. Nothing is deleted: your charts, your library and your client records all stay. You lose access to the paid depth, and:

  • Pro users: every branded share link you have issued stops working the moment the plan ends, including links already in your clients' hands. Export what you need first.

Downgrading rather than cancelling

Pro to Plus is a plan change in the same portal, not a cancel-and-resubscribe. Stripe prorates it.
