The zodiac most charts use follows the seasons.
The tropical zodiac starts at the March equinox and cuts the Sun's path into twelve equal 30-degree signs. It was set that way on purpose, roughly two thousand years ago, when the signs and the constellations still lined up. It keeps the seasons perfectly. It was never tied to the stars.
About one degree every 72 years.
The Earth's axis wobbles slowly, one full turn in about 26,000 years. As it turns, the equinox slides backwards through the constellations. Today the tropical signs sit about 31 degrees away from the constellations they are named after, a little under six gates. When a tropical chart says the Sun was in Aries, it was standing in front of Pisces.
The constellations are not the same size.
Along the Sun's path there are thirteen constellations, and they are nothing like equal. Virgo takes almost 50 degrees, Scorpio about 13, and Ophiuchus, the one the twelve-sign zodiac leaves out, about 12. We draw and count them at their real widths.

How we measure
Open astronomy, and a named method.
Planet positions come from an open astronomy engine, far more precisely than a gate or a line needs.
Where one constellation ends and the next begins is a choice, and we name ours: the Midpoint Method by Athen Chimenti. It places each boundary on the Sun's path, halfway between the last star of one constellation and the first of the next. It is not the International Astronomical Union's 1930 map, which was drawn to divide the whole sky rather than the Sun's path. Other true-sky tools use other boundaries, and near an edge they can disagree.
