Redeeming a code
Where to enter it, the two kinds of code, and what the error messages mean.
Steps
- Open the upgrade page from the avatar menu.
- Enter your code in the redeem field.
- The app previews what the code does before anything is applied — read that preview, because it tells you whether the code needs a card.
- Confirm.
Redeem the code before starting a checkout, not during it. Codes are handled by the app rather than on the Stripe page.
The two kinds of code
Subscription codes give you a period of Plus or Pro. These are the ones you redeem here. They come in two flavours which behave very differently once the period ends — read trial and gift codes before redeeming, because one of them starts charging you and the other does not.
Reading codes are a discount on a one-off reading purchase, not on a subscription. They are entered at the reading checkout instead. If you try one here you will be told it applies to a reading rather than a subscription — that is not a broken code.
What the errors mean
- "Unknown code" — the code does not exist. Check for confusions between
0andO,1andl. Codes are not case sensitive. - "No longer active" — the code was switched off at our end.
- "Has expired" — the code had a deadline for redeeming it, and that has passed. This is about redeeming, not about the access period.
- "Fully redeemed" — the code had a limited number of uses and they are gone.
- "You have already used this code" — codes are once per account.
- "This code applies to a reading, not a subscription" — see above.
If a code should work and does not
Write to us with the code and where you got it. Do not post a working code publicly — a limited-use code is spent by whoever redeems it first.
