Entering your birth data

Your whole chart comes from three values: a date, a time and a place. Everything the app tells you afterwards rests on them being right.

Steps

1. Name. Anything you will recognise later in your library. It is a label, not part of the calculation.
2. Who is this? Yourself, another person, or a client. Choosing yourself is what marks the chart as your own and is what onboarding is waiting for.
3. Date of birth. Anything from 1 January 1900 to today.
4. Time of birth. Local clock time at the place of birth — the time on the wall where you were born, not converted to anything. If you do not know it, use the switch; see unknown birth time.
5. Place of birth. Start typing and pick a city from the list that appears.
6. Save. The chart is cast immediately.

Why the city has to come from the list

This is the step people get caught by, so it is worth being clear: the form will not submit on typed text alone. It will tell you to pick a city from the list.

The reason is that a place name is not enough to calculate anything. The app needs latitude, longitude and the historical time zone for that spot, and those come attached to the entry you select. "Springfield" typed by hand identifies nothing. "Springfield, Illinois, United States" chosen from the list carries coordinates and a time zone with it.

Once you have picked, the form shows the resolved zone underneath — something like Timezone Europe/Vienna, resolved automatically. That line is your confirmation that it worked.

If your birth place is not offered, read when your birth place is not in the list.

Getting the time right

Use the time on the birth certificate if you have one. Local clock time, exactly as recorded, including summer time if it was in force — the app applies the historical rules for that date and place, so do not adjust it yourself. See time zones and daylight saving.

The field accepts HH:MM. Seconds are accepted too but change nothing you will notice.

Yes, from Account → Birth data, and every chart recalculates. See editing or deleting a chart.
