What happens if you do not know your birth time

Turn on the time unknown switch and the app casts your chart anyway. It substitutes 12:00 local time and labels the chart clearly, so you always know which charts rest on a real time and which do not.

What you get anyway

Most of a Human Design chart is driven by the slower bodies, and those barely move in a day:

• The Sun and Earth gates — your incarnation cross — are reliable. The Sun moves roughly one degree a day, so a whole day of uncertainty rarely crosses a gate boundary.
• Mercury, Venus, Mars are usually stable across a single day.
• Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are effectively fixed.
• The design side — the 88-degree solar arc side of the chart — is calculated from the same birth moment and inherits the same slower-body stability.

For most people that means the broad shape of the bodygraph, and often the type itself, is right.

What is genuinely uncertain

• The Moon. It moves about twelve to fifteen degrees a day, which is roughly two to three gates. Any channel that depends on your Moon is uncertain.
• Lines. Every activation has a line from 1 to 6. Lines are sixths of a gate, so they shift far faster than gates do. Your profile is built from Sun and Earth lines, and it can be wrong.
• Authority. Authority depends on which centres are defined. If a Moon-dependent channel is the one thing making a centre defined, your authority can change with the time.
• Type, in the same way — if a single uncertain channel is what connects a motor to the throat, type can move.

What we do not do yet, and should

The Account page says we "flag boundary activations as uncertain" on charts with no birth time. That is not implemented. The chart is cast at noon and the individual activations are not marked. The only signal you get is the (time unknown) label on the chart itself.

We would rather say that than let you assume a marking exists. In the meantime:

• Treat the profile and authority on a noon chart as a hypothesis, not a fact.
• If you can narrow the time to a window — "some time in the morning" — cast two charts, one at each end. Anything that stays the same across both is solid. Anything that changes is the uncertain part.
• Or write to us with the date, place and whatever range you know, and we will run the boundaries by hand and tell you what moves.

Finding the real time

In many countries the birth time is on the long-form birth certificate, or held by the hospital, or in a civil register. It is worth the letter. A real time turns a probable profile into a certain one.
