Browsers, devices and offline use

What works

Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox or Brave, on desktop or mobile. The app is built for the current web platform and is tested on recent versions of each.

If you are on a browser more than a couple of years old, expect layout problems before you expect anything else.

What does not

Internet Explorer. Not supported and will not be.

Browsers with JavaScript disabled. The app draws its interface with scripts; there is no non-scripted fallback. The public glossary and the marketing pages do work without it.

Strict script blockers. See a page is stuck loading.

On a phone

The app is responsive and designed for a phone, not merely tolerant of one. The navigation collapses into a drawer, the chart reading opens as a bottom sheet, and inputs are sized to avoid iOS zooming when you focus them.

The one place a real screen helps is printing a one-sheet, which is laid out for a sheet of paper.

There is no installable app

No App Store or Play Store app. The app is a website.

It is not installable to your home screen as a proper web app either. Some browsers will let you add a bookmark that looks like an app icon, but there is no web app manifest, so it will not behave like an installed app — no standalone window, no icon we control.

There is no offline mode. No service worker, no cached charts, nothing readable on a plane. Every page needs a connection.

These are on our known gaps list. An installable, offline-capable version is a real piece of work rather than a switch, and it has not been started. If you would use it, say so — it is the kind of thing that gets built when enough people ask.

If you need a chart without a connection, print or save the one-sheet as a PDF before you go.
