The chart page is showing someone else's chart
The app falls back to a sample chart when it cannot load yours. How to tell, and what to do.
This article describes something in the app that is missing, partly built, or advertised elsewhere and not actually available. It says what happens today and how to get the outcome by hand. Everything of this kind is listed on known gaps.
If the chart page shows a name you do not recognise, you are almost certainly looking at the built-in sample chart rather than a bug in your data.
Why it happens
The chart page needs a chart to draw. When the chart picker returns nothing — because the request failed, because the session expired mid-load, or because there is genuinely nothing saved yet — the page falls back to a demonstration chart so that it renders something rather than an empty frame.
That fallback was a reasonable choice for a screenshot. It is a poor one for a signed-in user with a real chart, because there is nothing on the page that says "this is a sample". We consider that a defect, and it is on the known gaps list.
How to tell
Look at the name in the chart picker at the top of the page. If it is not a name you entered, it is the sample. Your own charts always carry the name you gave them.
What to do
- Reload the page. A one-off failed request is the most common cause and a reload fixes it.
- Check you are still signed in. Open the avatar menu. If it offers to sign you in rather than out, your session expired — sign in again and the chart returns. See signed out unexpectedly.
- Open Library. If your charts are listed there, the data is fine and the chart page simply failed to fetch it. If the library is empty and you expected charts, that is a different problem — write to us before creating anything new, so we can look at the account as it stands.
- Check the picker. If you have several charts, select yours explicitly.
What it does not mean
It does not mean your chart has been deleted, and it does not mean anyone else can see your data. The sample chart is fixture data shipped with the app, not another user's record.
